"How you fondue-ing" and "Vous êtes ici!"

On Tuesday or Wednesday, I can't remember which, the Smith Group toured the UN, which was pretty cool. We got to sit in a bunch of the conference rooms and see the UN library. Being at the library made me miss working at Josten--I hope everyone is well there!

It's kind of funny to realize that the UN is run by normal people. I'm possibly going to intern with a UN org, but I'm not sure yet.

I finished orientation this Thursday, after handing in many papers and having them returned with copious corrections, and giving a presentation on Rousseau and his attempted musical career.

On Thursday night, the Smith group all went to a section of Geneva called "Carouge" for a fondue dinner. Our Swiss history teacher for orientation told us that this area outside of the old village was known for its religious tolerance, as opposed to the harsh forms of Protestantism that characterized Calvin's Geneva. The fondue was very delicious, but my estomac was very upset with me post-fondue, (however it is always upset with me, and I'm not sure why I expected this to be magically cured in another country?). One of our program directors told me that fondue is a traditional meal in the mountains, because they have only cheese and very hard bread which they can dip in the cheese to soften it.

Saturday afternoon, Anne and I went shopping and I bought a new purse and wallet to make me feel better post-stolen-wallet. Then we went to get some hot chocolate afterwards which was the bomb.

Today I woke up early and went to the center city to meet up with Rachel and her french roommate and a couple of her roommate's friends-- one swiss girl and another from Romania. They were so interesting to talk to! We all went hiking on the France/Switz border by the Rhone River and it was soooo wonderful to be in nature! It was too foggy to see the mountains properly, but still very beautiful. We hiked for about 3 hours I think, maybe more, and I could have gone for so much longer! I wish I could have an internship where all I was required to do was to hike all day long.

After hiking, Rachel and I ate oat burgers she made for dinner and then watched some of the movie "Martian Child." Now I am falling into dreamland...

  1. When you come back to the USA, we could go on some nice rambles on the Appalachian Trail. Not all of it is straight up mountain sides...
