England is very muddy.
Since we've been here, it's been pretty much nonstop drizzling and pouring, and very grey. Occasionally there are spots of blue which poke through the cloud coverage, and we've been told by Rachel's aunt not to point these out because we will jinx the sunshine.
A couple days ago, we decided to brave the weather and go for a 5-8 mile bike ride (I can't really remember the total mileage exactly) to White Horse Hill, biking on these muddy footpaths on our bikes up to the top of the hill, which has the image of a giant horse outlined with chalk stones on the hill.
Unfortunately, we forgot to take pictures at the top of the hill! I apologize for that. The mud at the time seemed more important to us.
The next day we went on a long walk in the morning with two of Rachel's aunt and uncle's friends, a British couple that also lived in America for a long time (and the husband apparently invented the Venus razor!). This was another long muddy walk through a forested area, but really nice despite how muddy my shoes are. We then had a nice lunch at a pub for the rest of the afternoon.
We bought tickets to spend the day in London tomorrow, Tuesday. We have to get Rachel's visa sorted out and I hope to see Hilary while we're there.
Now you know what all the buzz about wellies is!
